Booth Welsh is celebrating the achievement of colleagues from across the business who have successfully completed the CMI Sustainable Leadership programme and become Responsible Growth Champions.

The programme brought together employees from finance, commercial, engineering, operations and health & safety, helping to build sustainability knowledge and leadership capability across the organisation.

At Booth Welsh, developing our people is central to how we deliver responsible growth. By investing in sustainability skills, we are strengthening our ability to make informed decisions, create long-term value for customers and communities, and support our journey towards Net Zero.

The 12-month programme explored practical approaches to leadership, change management, stakeholder engagement and sustainable business practices. Participants developed the skills and confidence needed to embed responsible decision-making into everyday work and support positive change across the organisation.

Kim Mulhern, Quantity Surveyor at Booth Welsh, said:

“The CMI leadership course has sharpened how I think about sustainability, from something that’s nice to have to something that’s closely linked to cost, risk and quality. We still have work to do, but embedding these habits into our everyday decisions will help us remain competitive, resilient and proud of the projects we deliver.”

Michael Naismith, Mechanical Engineer at Booth Welsh, added:

“The programme broadened my perspective on how sustainability influences engineering strategy, team leadership and project outcomes. It reinforced the responsibility leaders have to balance technical excellence with long-term thinking, helping us make more informed decisions for our business and our customers.”

The investment forms part of Booth Welsh’s wider commitment to responsible business and sustainable growth. By building capability across the organisation, we are equipping our people with the skills needed to lead change, support our sustainability ambitions and create lasting value for future generations.

Investing in Responsible Growth

Alongside the CMI programme, members of the Booth Welsh team also participated in Responsible Growth Champion programmes delivered by Think Partnership.

Working alongside organisations from across Scotland, participants explored how businesses can grow sustainably while creating positive outcomes for people, communities and the environment. The programme encouraged collaboration, shared learning and practical action, recognising that meaningful change happens when responsibility becomes part of everyday decision-making.

Mhairi Macmillan, HSEQ Advisor at Booth Welsh, said:

“The Responsible Business Growth course reinforced how important ESG and circular thinking are to our long-term success. Our customers increasingly expect us to demonstrate these principles in practice, so it’s important that we continue building these capabilities across the business. By working together, we can create a more resilient organisation and a positive impact we’re proud of.”
