Booth Welsh is pleased to announce the signing of multi-million-pound contract with Yokogawa to lead the detailed design phase of the Bishop Auckland Compressor Station Upgrade, a key project in modernising the UK’s gas infrastructure. This milestone builds on a successful strategic partnership and reinforces the shared commitment of both organisations to innovation in the energy sector.
The Bishop Auckland Compressor Station is a vital component of the National Gas Transmission network, and this upgrade is part of a broader programme to enhance the reliability, safety, and efficiency of aging facilities. Having successfully completed the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) phase, Booth Welsh now transitions into delivering detailed design over the next two years.
The project focuses on Electrical, Control, and Instrumentation (E,C&I), with Booth Welsh delivering 22 Engineering Design Scopes covering critical aspects such as Station Control Systems, SCADA integration, functional safety, and civil and mechanical upgrades. The detailed design phase will ensure that the compressor station is fully prepared to meet future operational and environmental demands.
Hugh Welsh, Engineering Director at Booth Welsh, commented: “This contract represents an exciting step forward in our collaboration with Yokogawa. The Bishop Auckland upgrade is a flagship project for Booth Welsh, and we are committed to delivering innovative, reliable, and sustainable engineering solutions. Our partnership continues to drive meaningful advancements within the energy sector, and I look forward to the outcomes we will achieve together.”
Carl Ramsden, Managing Director at Yokogawa UK & Ireland, commented:
“At Yokogawa, we are committed to ensuring critical infrastructure projects like the Bishop Auckland upgrade benefit from cutting-edge technology and rigorous engineering standards. We are excited to see the results of this collaboration and the value it will bring to the energy sector.”
This contract builds on the strategic foundation established earlier this year and highlights the strong alignment between Booth Welsh and Yokogawa in delivering impactful infrastructure improvements.
