The Background.

Our client, a UK-listed global specialty chemicals company, aimed to double production of their NiSAT product line at their Scotland facility. NiSAT, a non-ionic synthetic associate thickener used in the paint industry, required expedited project execution due to market timing. Booth Welsh was engaged to provide a  solution, evolving from an initial FEED study to a full EPCM solution.

The Solution.

Booth Welsh undertook a fast-track design and build project, managing the entire process from initial front-end engineering design (FEED) through to detailed design, construction, and final commissioning. The project adopted a phased approach, aligning design and construction on a system-by-system basis, allowing for construction to commence while detailed design continued. This approach enabled the expanded facility to be commissioned in less than 12 months. A multidisciplinary team covered all major aspects of the project, including:

  • Project Management: Ensured effective coordination and timely execution of all activities.
  • Process Engineering Design: Optimised production process and improved efficiency.
  • Process Safety: Conducted HAZOP, LOPA, and SIL assessments for highest safety standards.
  • Mechanical Equipment Specification, Selection & Procurement: Managed the specification and procurement of pumps, vessels, agitators, and valves.
  • Instrument Engineering Design: Designed systems for accurate measurement and control.
  • Instrument Equipment Specification, Selection & Procurement: Sourced process instrumentation and remote IO panels.
  • Control System Specification: Developed a control system for efficient production.
  • Electrical Engineering Design: Provided design services for new Motor Control Centres (MCC), trace heating systems, and lighting.
  • Civil & Structural Design: Designed a new mezzanine level and emergency escape staircase, optimising layout and ensuring safety compliance.
  • Construction Management: Managed the construction phase, establishing CDM site protocols and ensuring regulatory compliance.

The Benefits.

New Production Capability: Enabled advanced production capabilities, meeting growing market demands.

Increased Production Capacity: Enhanced production capacity for larger-scale operations and improved supply chain capabilities.

Facility Designed for Future Expansion: Provided flexibility for scaling up operations, accommodating growth and market demands.
