At Booth Welsh, we care about our community
Through collaboration, we engineer a better future
Net Zero
As a business we are always working on ways in which we can operate as more planet-positive, to deliver our mission: 'through collaboration, we engineer a better future'.
Our collaboration with Fuel Change has enabled us to engage 90% of our younger workforce in exploring solutions that can help reduce carbon emissions to real world business problems and potentially be implemented as new innovations across the business. Through these challenges, we aimed to raise awareness of global sustainability issues and equip our young workforce with the skills needed when faced challenges in their careers.
As a business, we have made a commitment to meet the UN ‘Race to Zero’ Pledge, which focuses on accountability through measuring and reporting. Booth Welsh are among the first companies to sign up to the Net Zero Nation Accelerator programme at the beginning of 2022 and now have our carbon accounts, carbon certification and a credible carbon reduction plan. We have been touring the country speaking about our journey helping other companies to view Net Zero as an exceptional business opportunity as opposed to a cost.
Community
At Booth Welsh, we are committed to supporting the communities in Ayrshire and Scotland. We believe that by working together, we can create a brighter future for everyone.
Booth Welsh is committed to the principles of Community Wealth Building (CWB), an economic model that seeks to build sustainable and inclusive local economies. CWB aims to create wealth and prosperity for everyone in the community, not just for a select few. At Booth Welsh, we support CWB by sourcing locally whenever possible, creating local jobs, and partnering with community organisations to support local economic development.
We actively engage with and give back to our community through regular events. We have formed strong and long-lasting partnerships with several community groups and charities, including Ayrshire Hospice and Cash for Kids Ayrshire. Through collaborative events and sponsorship opportunities, we strive to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in our community.
STEM
Booth Welsh is committed to promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and encouraging the development of future engineers.
Our employee-led STEM team, which is part of the STEM Ambassador programme, has been running for many years and has a large percentage of our staff members actively involved in STEM activities.
The Booth Welsh STEM team has created bespoke activities that complement and showcase our company’s business functions, including innovative digitalisation technology such as Virtual and Augmented Reality, as well as traditional engineering solutions. In recent years, we were shortlisted for the STEM Inspiration Award in the STEM Employer – Small and Medium Enterprises category and received the “highly commended” runner-up prize at the House of Lords.
Recognising the shortage of engineering talent needed to meet future demand, we actively encourage our team to become STEM ambassadors through Science Connects. We collaborate with local schools, youth groups, and local initiatives such as DYW (Developing Young Workforce) Ayrshire, Enable Scotland, and the HIVE program at Ayrshire College, to educate children and young people about the exciting opportunities in future-focused careers.
