The Background.

Clough were contracted by Rio Tinto to complete FEED, detailed design & procurement support for the Cape Lambert Power Station near Wickham in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. In parallel Clough conducted a concept analysis evaluating the most economic method for staging power output to match the forecast demand curve.

Scope of Work.

The Cape Lambert Power Station Project (130 MW) is a greenfields Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant facility, consisting of two dual fuel LM6000 GE Aero-derivative gas turbines and one condensing steam turbine in a 2 x 1 CCGT configuration.

Each gas turbine will produce 47 MW of electrical power, with the steam turbine producing an additional 40 MW. The steam turbine will be powered by high and low pressure steam generated in two ‘Once Through Steam Generators’ (OTSGs) that will recover waste heat from each of the gas turbine exhausts and cooled in a forced draught Air Cooled Condenser (ACC). The gas turbine inlet air is chilled to smooth out the facility’s power delivery and improve plant performance across a range of ambient temperatures. In addition the gas turbines are injected with demin water (SPRINT) with capability for duct firing in the OTSG. Scope includes: site establishment, earthworks including powerstation pad and roadworks, access road, abutments, sedimentation pond, evaporation pond and embankments, access road, Site drainage, installation of two GTG Packages steam cycle equipment, including one ACC, one STG Unit and all BOP, design and installation of a sewage treatment plant in accordance with specifications and datasheets.
